Remote picker container acceptance

Run the disposable two-container acceptance harness with:

make remote-acceptance

The harness builds the current binary, starts a local client container and an SSH-enabled remote daemon container on a private Docker network, and removes all resources when it exits. Docker uses the normal CLI configuration, so DOCKER_HOST or the active context selects a rootless daemon; the harness does not assume a socket pathname.

Environment overrides:

  • VEV_HARNESS_BASE_IMAGE selects the Docker base image used for both containers (default: ubuntu:24.04).
  • VEV_HARNESS_TARGET selects the SSH target passed to the harness binary (default: test@remote).
  • VEV_HARNESS_ARTIFACT_DIR, when set, writes a bounded remote-picker-harness.json containing output-state, checkpoint, and event metadata. It is unset by default; the artifact contains no terminal bytes, raw screen text, credentials, or target output. run.sh copies the report to that host directory before it removes the disposable containers.

Each logical transport has one persistent vt.Screen and a client-equivalent output-state chain. The probe writes accepted full, incremental, and side-effect frames to that screen, ACKs only accepted state-bearing frames, and retains a bounded set of screen checkpoints plus non-sensitive event metadata. The local picker phase captures unified local/remote rows before selection, keeps the same local client transport while the daemon publishes proxied remote content, rejects direct MsgAttachTarget handoff and remote daemon chrome, verifies continued input, and captures the unified rows again from the remote view.

The run exercises real SSH-stdio and UDP attachment, typed live catalog and preview requests, tab creation/removal fencing, exact lifecycle fencing after replacement, daemon restart resume, slow-preview cancellation, version mismatch, and unreachable-host handling. It checks environment values in memory without printing terminal viewport data.

Stopped-selector restoration and daemon-owned environment assertions are also covered by the repository's daemon and route integration tests, where the fixture can deterministically hold restoration at the stopped state.

Keyboard shortcuts

Single-key shortcuts are on. ctrl k and esc work whatever this says.

ctrl k :
go to a section, branch, tag, file or repository
?
this list
j k
move the row cursor down / up
enter
open the row under the cursor; on Files, a directory opens or closes in place
↑ ↓ ← → home end
in the file tree (focus on a row): previous / next row, close / open a directory or go to its parent / first entry, first / last row. They never open a file
l h
on Files: open a directory or a file / close a directory or go up to its parent, then to the parent page. Elsewhere: into the side panel (on a merge request, its files) / back to the content; there j k move between its controls
g g G
first / last row
/
filter the list; on Files, find a file anywhere in the repository (esc clears, enter opens the best match)
b
switch branch or tag
g s g f g c g b g m g i g r g a
tabs: summary, files, commits, branches & tags, merge requests, issues, releases, actions (when available)
g h

w
wide mode: use the whole width of the screen, or not (remembered)
y
copy a permalink pinned to the commit
d u x
diff: split / unified / collapse or expand all
e E
diff: the whole file in view / every file, with the lines the hunks hide
